Band News – September 9
We have several exciting band events on our doorstep, so please read below for updates and reminders.
Please see the 2024/25 Band Events Schedule for more info on all important dates.
- Tuesday, Sept 10, 3rd period: Boise State Univ Prof of trombone Sarah Paradis visits!
- Wednesday, September 18, 7:00 PM, Jazz Band Concert at Hellgate High School Auditorium
- Jazz 1 will open for the Missoula Jazz Orchestra and nationally acclaimed guest star Summer Camargo – trumpet.
- Call time 6:15pm in Hellgate band room (Jazz 1 only is performing tonight).
- Uniform: Dress nicely (collared dress shirt, dress pants, dress shoes)
- $10 admission for adults, free for MCPS students
- Ms. Camargo will teach Jazz 1 on Tuesday, Sept 17 during 3rd period.
- Friday, September 20, at 5:45 PM, Band in the stands @MCPS Stadium, required for all.
- Bring: LYRE for your instrument, flip folio, water bottle, your instrument. Please bring all of this with you to the MCPS stadium (Big Sky).
- Uniform will be band shirts and school colors
- Percussionists – load gear after school at 3:35 (need parent volunteers to help with transport).
- Saturday, September 21, 12:30 – 7:00 PM (Saturday), Band Retreat
- Homecoming Practice (parade and field show) – have comfy shoes, dress for the weather
- Required curricular event for all band/percussion students
- Dinner break 5:00-5:30 PM (food provided)
- Uniform Checkout: Thursday, Sept 26, after school
- With help from our amazing parent volunteers, all students will size and check-out uniforms after school.
- If you can arrive early during 7th period, please do so (but only with your teacher’s permission)
- Bring your uniform home right away. Do not leave your uniform at HHS.
- Friday, 10/4, School Assembly Performance during school (all bands/drumline) in main gym
- Friday, October 4, 5:30 PM, Homecoming Game @MCPS Stadium (Big Sky)
- Required curricular event for all band/percussion students
- Bring: LYRE for your instrument, flip folio, water bottle, your instrument. Please bring all of this with you to Big Sky.
- Performance attire: new Hellgate Band Shirts and school colors
- Percussionists – make a plan for loading gear after school at 3:35 (I have reserved a school truck to haul equipment).
- We are making plans to have food available for the band during 3rd quarter (after halftime performance with the amazing color guard).
- Saturday, October 12, 8:00-11:00 AM, UM Homecoming Parade
- Required curricular event for all band/percussion students
- Arrive early in full uniform, check out beret and gloves, be ready to rock at 8:00 AM
- 8:10 Full Band photo in the courtyard (volunteer photographer needed – please email)
- 8:30 Load busses at Hellgate, bus to Higgins and Spruce (downtown), form parade squads and warmup together
- 9:15 Perform with all bands in Band Circle next to Worden’s. Families are invited to watch this awesome event–it’s my favorite part of the parade!
- 10:00 – Rock the UM Homecoming Parade down Higgins Ave
- Walk back to Hellgate from end point (down University Ave a few blocks)
- Return equipment, return overlays, cleanup band room, head home, ~11AM
- Monday, October 14, Fall Band Concert @HHS Auditorium: All members of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band (advanced), Concert Band (intermediate), and Percussion Ensemble will perform. Students arrive at 6:30 pm, Hellgate band room.
- Concert Uniforms (tuxedo or dress) will be checked out to all students Sept 26 (thanks to our incredible parent-team)
